| Two more trigger levels have
been added to the Lufthansa Cargo Fuel Price Index (http://www.lufthansa-cargo.com/index.jsp)
on which the air cargo fuel surcharge collected by airlines in
Hong Kong are based.
Level 9 – Fuel price exceeds 315 for a period of two consecutive weeks: Fuel surcharge will be adjusted to 0.45 Euro per kg AND fuel price index below 295 for a period of two consecutive weeks: Fuel surcharge will be adjusted to 0.40 Euro per kg.
Level 10 – Fuel price exceeds 340 for a period of two consecutive weeks: Fuel surcharge will be adjusted to 0.50 Euro per kg AND fuel price index below 320 for a period of two consecutive weeks: Fuel surcharge will be adjusted to 0.45 Euro per kg.
For Hong Kong, the Board of Airline Representatives has set the following surcharges on the same basis as the Lufthansa Cargo fuel surcharge
mechanism.
Level 9 – Fuel price exceeds 315 for a period of two consecutive weeks: Fuel surcharge will be adjusted to HK$3.60 per kg AND fuel price index below 295 for a period of two consecutive weeks: Fuel surcharge will be adjusted to HK$3.20 per kg.
Level 10 – Fuel price exceeds 340 for a period of two consecutive weeks: fuel surcharge will be adjusted to HK$4 per kg AND fuel price index below 320 for a period of two consecutive weeks: Fuel surcharge will be adjusted to HK$3.60 per kg.
As per the current practise, the above surcharge will apply only to TC1 (North and South America), TC2 (Europe, Middle East and Africa), and part of TC3 (South and Southwest Pacific). Other destinations in TC3 (all of Asia other than South and Southwest Pacific) will be subject to 50% of the surcharge due to shorter distance and less fuel consumption.
The current level, which took effect 5 April 2005, is as follows:
