Hong Kong, China ports' container throughput rise in February 2007

The Hong Kong port’s container throughput in January-February this year reached 3.6 million TEUs, 6.8% higher than the same period last year. In February, the Kwai Chung-Tsing Yi terminals handled a total of 1.22 million TEUs while the total handling of the port reached 1.7 million TEUs for the month, 14.2% higher than the number of containers handled in February last year.

The Shenzhen ports handled a total of 3.1 million TEUs in January-Feburary 2007, 22.1% higher than the same period last year. In February 2007, the ports across the boundary handled a total of 1.5 million TEUs, 39.2% than February 2006.

Meanwhile, according to Xinhuafinance.com, China’s overall main sea and river ports handled 7.63 million TEUs in February, a 41.2% over February 2006.In January-February 2007, China’s container handling increased 30.2% to 16.05 million TEUs handled compared to the same period lat year. The report said that China has more than 40 major ports.
