For the period under review, April 2003-March 2004, Hong Kong's air cargo total throughput was 2.8mn tonnes, an increase of 7.6% over the April 2002-March 2003 total of 2.6mn tonnes. Total export cargo volume for April 2003-March 2004 increased by 10.2%, to 1.7mn tonnes, while imports were up 3.6% to 1.1mn tonnes over the same period the previous year.
In real value terms, domestic exports decreased by 8.3% to HK$34.9bn while imports increased by nearly 20% to HK$656.1bn in April 2003-March 2004 over April 2002-March 2003. Re-exports also increased by nearly 19% to HK$439.1bn in April 2003-March 2004 over the same period the previous year.
Total trade increased by 18.5% to over HK$1,130bn in April 2003-March 2004, from HK$954.1bn in April 2002-March 2003.
For April 2003-March 2004, the Hong Kong port's total container throughput continued its rise, recording a total of close to 20.96mn TEU handled, with 10.55mn TEU loaded and 10.41mn TEU discharged.
In real value terms, Hong Kong's domestic exports by sea decreased by 1.1%, from HK$54.3bn in April 2002-March 2003 to nearly HK$53.7bn in April 2003-March 2004. Re-exports totalled HK$633.7bn, up 1.2% compared to the same period in the previous year. Total exports increased by 1.03% to HK$687.4bn in April 2003-March 2004.
Imports by sea increased by 6.9% to nearly HK$518bn in April 2003-March 2004. Hong Kong's total trade value for cargo transported by sea in April 2003-March 2004 was 3.5% higher than cargo transported in April 2002 - March 2003.
The value of goods transported by land in April 2003-March 2004 totalled HK1,150.2bn, an increase of 11.6% over the total of HK$1,030.1bn recorded in April 2002-March 2003. Total exports increased by 18.5% to HK$536bn from HK$452bn the previous year, while imports up 6.2% to HK$614.2bn from HK$578.3bn in April 2002-March 2003.
