Air Cargo Fuel Surcharge


The level of the cargo fuel surcharge has dropped a step, effective 3 March 2010. According to the HKSAR’s Civil Aviation Department which tracks the fuel surcharge, the existing level of cargo fuel surcharge are Long Haul – HK$4.8 per kg and Short Haul – HK$2.4 per kg with effect from 1 Feb 2010.

Due to recent drop in fuel price, Cathay Pacific Airways and Hong Kong Dragonair and other airlines have applied to the CAD to adjust the level down to Long Haul – HK$4.4 per kg and Short Haul – HK$2.2 per kg effective 3 March 2010 onwards. The proposed level is in line with the fuel price index.

Meanwhile, as an indicator of the range of import fuel surcharges, the latest British Airways World Cargo Fuel Surcharge on its website is GBP0.43 / USD0.65 / EUR0.60 or local currency equivalent .

  • to HKG/SE Asia/NE Asia : adjusted from USD0.50/kg to USD 0.60/kg
  • to Aust/NZ/India/Middle East : adjusted from USD0.70/kg to USD 0.80/kg

ex-Canada (effective from 9 November,2009)

  • Within North America : adjusted from CAD 0.40/kg to CAD 0.42/kg
  • to HKG/SE Asia/NE Asia : adjusted from CAD 0.60/kg to CAD 0.63/kg
