March goods exports up 27.4%


March saw the volume of total goods exports grow 27.4% and that of imports rise 35.2% on a year earlier, the Census & Statistics Department says . The volume of goods re-exports surged 27.7% while that of domestic exports grew 18.5%.

In March the price of goods re-exports rose 3.4% while that of domestic exports rose 4.5%. Taken together, the price of total goods exports grew 3.4%. The price of goods imports surged 4.9%.

For the first quarter as a whole the volume of total goods exports rose 23.4% and the volume of goods imports surged 31.4%. The volume of goods re-exports grew 23.5% while that of domestic exports also rose 20.2%.

In the first quarter the price of goods re-exports rose 2.8%, while those of domestic exports grew 3.2%. Taken together the price of total goods exports surged 2.8%. The price of goods imports rose 3.6%.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong port handled a total of 5.4 million TEU in 1Q 2010, up 16.3% YoY. For the month of April, 1.9 million TEUs were handled at the Hong Kong port, 10.8% growth over April 09.

Over at the Shenzhen ports, 4.9 million TEUs were handled in 1Q10, 26.1% more than in 1Q09. For the month of April, 1.7 million TEU throughput was recorded at the Shenzhen ports, a growth of 20.4% over April 2009.
